Travel to Skiathos by Ferry.
As you probably know, the easiest way to travel from your European destination to Skiathos is via aeroplane straight to the airport of Skiathos, but what if your home country does not have a straight flight to Skiathos?
There are a few options, more or less comfortable and depending on your travelling budget.
It is 10:00 o’clock on a Tuesday morning, I am sitting on the deck of the Anes Ferries vessel Symi, an older model of transportation connection the islands of Skiathos and Skopelos. We departed from Agios Constantinos at 9:15 and the speed of the ferry feel more like a rock-a-by-baby than a vessel for mass transportation. My fingers stick to the keyboard while writing, thanks to the thick fumes coming from the ferries exhaust. We have another 3 hours to go before we embark at Skiathos Port. This is by far the slowest way of getting to Skiathos and Skopelos, but the sun is shining, the Fredo Espresso is made to perfection and the staff is very helpful and kind.
Travelling from Ag. Constantinos, Volos and Matuidi to Skiathos by ferry.
Travelling from Ag. Constantinos to Skiathos is one of the few ways of getting to Skiathos on a daily basis. You can also travel from Volos to Skiathos if you landed at Volos Airport, there is a bus connecting the airport to the harbour of Volos, which takes about 45 minutes. If you are travelling from Athens like I, then you can take the connecting bus from Athens to Ag. Constantinos from Monday to Friday and then jump on the ferry to Skiathos and Skopelos. From Friday to Sunday you can connect with the Hellenic Seaways „Flying Cat“ which is a much more modern way of transportation and only takes 1 hour and 45 minutes compared to the 3-4 hours trip I have vast myself upon.
Find the Greek vacation rhythm.
Matuidi located on the Peninsula of Evia is the last alternative, busses are connecting from Athens to the port of Matuidi. The journey is „only“ 3 hours, so brace yourself with patience and bring a good book. There is no WIFI on the vessels, so your journey might just be a healthy way of disconnecting from your stressful life at home and a great way to climatise to your vacation mode.
Here you will find pieces of information about the Departures from Matuidi, Volos and Agios Constantinos. We will also provide you with the contact information for the bus company connecting from Athens to the mentioned ports.
I wish you safe travels and enjoy the warm weather and warmth of the Greeks.
